Date: February 2019 – December 2019 Client: Melbourne Water Location: Bangholme Subcontract Value: $6m
Overview
Gearon Civil were contracted by Safety Focus Performance to deliver the early works component of the Solar Farm for Melbourne Water.
Melbourne Water’s Eastern Treatment Plant treats approximately 40% of Melbourne’s Total Sewerage. The aim of this project was to reduce the plants carbon emissions and to generate renewable energy. The treatment plant already includes a biogas facility that generates approximately 30% of the electricity required each year to run the plant. The solar farm will produce another 22%, increasing on-site generation to 52%.

Executive Summary
We imported and placed approximately 200,000m3 of material onto this site to construct and appropriate a working and low maintenance platform for the Solar farm. We were averaging a truck and trailer onsite every 90 seconds and had at one time 15-20 trucks onsite.
The entire job spanned approximately 9 months and went like clockwork thanks to the hard work of the Engineers, Supervisors and Operators. There were nil injuries on the project.
We are sure that the overall project for Melbourne Water will be a success and are pleased to be part such a great initiative.
