Overview
Bulk earthworks, stormwater drainage and pavement construction for the realignment of a 1 kilometre section the South Gippsland Highway. The original road had significant bends on this part of the highway which resulted in frequent run-off road accidents, freight delays and safety concerns.

25,000m3 of Cut to Fill of Type A, Type B and Type C material
45,000m3 of Cut to dispose offsite
Works around settlement monitoring equipment
VicRoads Scale A tolerances and Scale A compaction requirements
Pavement Construction including:
Construction of 13,500m2 of pavement
Supply and installation of all Class 4, Class 3 and Class 1 material
Class 1 finished with surface texture approved for placement of seal

Executive Summary
Gearon Civil were contracted to complete a 1km section of these highway upgrade works to address safety concerns in an area known locally as the “Black Spur”.
The works were staged to allow the majority of works to occur offline parallel to the existing alignment with multiple smaller stages to complete tie-in works for the newly constructed section and also facilitate the demolition of the existing road. All works were completed to Vicroads standards and completed with constant inspection by Vicroads Surveillance Officer.
